Wanna make a couple thousand Benjamins to the tune of $100,000 precisely? Then just give the world better condoms!
Microsoft co-founder and billionaire numero deux Bill Gates has put a call out to investors via his foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation offering a $100,000 start-up grant to the person who designs the ”the next generation condom that significantly preserves or enhances pleasure” and promotes “regular use”. The start-up grant could also lead to $1 million in further funding.
Unbelievable right? But there’s more to Mr Gates challenge than his seeming interest in the world’s sex life. While condoms are regarded as one of the best ways to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS, a lot of people do not actually like to use them opting instead to have unprotected sex thereby defeating the purpose. An advanced design in condoms that would get people to use them would therefore be a huge advantage so enter the Bill Gates challenge. The UNAIDS World AIDS Day report states that about 34 million people in the world are leaving with HIV many of whom don’t even know they’re infected and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is heavily into providing improved healthcare to the world particularly in 3rd world countries.
